Finding the time to get in a little exercise
Finding the time to get in a little exercise
Busy, busy, busy! You feel like you’re running around everywhere, day in and day out. Suddenly, you look down and can’t see your toes any more. You look in the mirror and there is more chin and cheek than there used to be. Once you exercised regularly–you even enjoyed it! Now there simply isn’t the time.
This is a common notion, though it is far from the truth. There are more hours in the day than you realize, and you probably waste more time during the day than you think. Remember, it only takes 30 minutes to get in a pretty solid workout. Even if you can only find 15 minutes, that will do wonders for your physique, energy and confidence. You can find 15 minutes in a day, can’t you?
Here are a few places where you may find those precious minutes.
- If you are lucky enough to have your gym really close to work, go on your lunch break. If you have an hour lunch break, you can grab a 20 minute workout, shower and still have about 20 minutes to eat lunch. If you pack your lunch, which is cheaper and usually healthier anyway, that’s plenty of time.
- You can stop by the gym on the way to or from work and get in a quick 20 or 30 minute workout. Before work is probably best because you haven’t let the day sap your energy and the workout will boost your metabolism, as well as energize your day.
- If there is no gym around, just go for a walk on a work break. It will get you out of the office and into the fresh air in addition to offering a little exercise.
- Another great way to get some exercise and have some fun is to join a local rec sports league. There is softball, basketball, volleyball, flag football and many more. Once or twice a week you’ll spend about an hour playing. It is a great way to augment your routine, have fun, improve coordination, meet people and keep your competitive juices flowing.
If you can get in 2 or 3 workouts during the week while at work and another 1 or 2 on the weekend, then you will begin to really notice the difference. And those weekend workouts don’t have to be in the gym, they can be playing a sport, hiking, swimming or any other physical activity you enjoy. Have FUN with it!
